Shortlist for Chambers Ireland's Corporate Social Responsibility Awards Announced
Chambers Ireland has announced the shortlist for the 2010 Corporate Social Responsibility Awards. Now in their seventh year the Awards continue to grow with this year's applications reaching a record high level - up 25% on last year. The Awards are partnered with Business in the Community Ireland, run in association with the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs, and kindly sponsored by Peninsula Business Services and Chamber HR.
Seán Murphy, Chambers Ireland Deputy Chief Executive said, “Given the challenges that so many Irish businesses continue to face, it is remarkable to see so many businesses do so many great things. This year we are particularly pleased so many SME companies showcasing their activities. All of these companies from SME through to MNC's are making real differences in their communities, on their environmental impact and with their many stakeholders. It is this commitment underpinned by CSR best practice that will play a key role in restoring Ireland's competitiveness in the future.”
Minister for Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs Pat Carey said, “The Corporate Social Responsibility awards are of particular importance in these difficult economic times and I am delighted that my Department continues to support this event. I understand that this year there has been a 25% increase on last year's applications which is great given the challenges that many businesses are facing. I was also encouraged to see the significant increase in applications from SMEs which have an important role to play in today's economy”.
Tina Roche, CEO of Business in the Community Ireland continued, “Responsible and sustainable business behavior has truly developed significantly in Ireland over the past number of years. It is vital to examine what different companies are doing and to highlight best practice in the various areas so that all businesses can continue to grow and improve their engagement with corporate responsibility. Well done to all who are shortlisted this year, it is a testament to the ongoing commitment of Irish business to having sustainable and responsible business practices.”
A total of 12 awards will be presented at this year's ceremony on Thursday 16th September in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin. There will be separate categories for large indigenous and multinational corporations in the core CSR themes of Environment, Community, Workplace and Marketplace. Awards for Best International CSR Programme, Best SME CSR Project, Most Innovative CSR Programme and Outstanding Achievement in CSR will also be presented.
