EPIC candidates receive their certificate of completion

EPIC is aimed at assisting immigrants to gain access to training, education and employment.

Over 70 EPIC participants today (Thursday, 24th July) officially received their Certificates of Completion at a special reception held at the EPIC headquarters in The Oblate Centre, Inchicore, Dublin.

This initiative called ‘Employment for People from Immigrant Communities' (EPIC) identifies immigrants who experience difficulties accessing appropriate employment and supports them in the process by providing individual guidance, specialised training and personal development opportunities.

The EPIC programme has been developed, expanded and managed by Business in the Community Ireland in association with Spirasi and it is funded by the Office of the Minister for Integration.

Business in the Community Ireland's EPIC programme, currently available in the Dublin area, comprises a six week training programme: English language skills, a Life and Work Skills course and one on one career guidance and support with a Training and Employment Officer. Initially starting out as a pilot programme in 2007, EPIC now has evolved to its present model whereby it has incorporated the business sector into how the programme operates. Therefore, clients can now access a dedicated IT training course from BT and CPL provides mentoring and mock interview skills.

At today's event, over 70 participants from 26 different countries including Poland, Nigeria and the Congo received their certificates of completion. These certificates mark the participants' completion of a 6 week training module comprising advanced English skills and a Life and Work Skills course. In addition, half of the participants also received a certificate marking their completion of BT's IT training course.
Speaking at the event, Steve Costello, Chairperson of the EPIC programme, said, “EPIC clients have a huge amount to offer the Irish economy so we are delighted to be running this programme and congratulate all of today's recipients.”
