Haiti Emergency Appeal: BITCI Members' Responses
We have been deeply saddened by this recent tragedy and our thoughts are with the people of Haiti at this difficult time. Please find below a round-up of actions by member companies of the Business in the Community Ireland network - many have acted quickly to respond to the urgent need. Abbott Laboratories Ireland Abbott are matching employees' donation to Concern, effectively doubling the impact. AIB Group AIB launched an AIB staff Haiti appeal. This resulted in €125,000 being raised to date. The money raised by AIB staff will be shared between agencies working in the earthquake zone. These are Concern, Goal, Haven, Irish Red Cross Society, Médecins Sans Frontières, Trócaire, UNICEF and Christian Aid. Aviva Aviva are in the process of doing their own collections through some of the organisations. Aviva gave staff the opportunity to donate in different ways - Cash donations, online donations and telephone donations through different charities. Bank of Ireland Bank of Ireland's Group Executive has agreed to extend the Bank of Ireland Give Together scheme to facilitate employee fundraising efforts for the Haiti appeal. BoI have also advertised a number of volunteering events for employees to use their annual volunteer day to support the Haiti appeal. To assist their customers to make donations, BoI has created a "Most popular link" on their website which lists the account numbers of 5 of the main charities involved in the appeal. BT Ireland Staff of BT in ROI organised a lunchtime table quiz which raised €2,350 for the appeal and BT NI donated £25,000 through their Give as You Earn Scheme. Coca-Cola The Coca-Cola Company pledged $1M to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief fund. The Coca-Cola System is also working with NGO partners to provide bottled water and other needed supplies to Haiti. Deloitte Deloitte set up a salary deduction scheme for donations and committed to matching all staff donations with an equal donation from the firm. Two charities were identified, Concern and UCD Volunteers Overseas. Diageo Ireland In addition to the launch of a cargo plane from Miami with roughly 50,000 lbs of medical and emergency food supplies, Diageo and Diageo's employees have raised £125,000 to date. EBS Building Society €26,009.33 in the EBS Haiti Fund has been donated to the Irish Red Cross. Eircom Eircom has joined forces with Concern organising bucket ‘collection in Eircom and Meteor buildings throughout the country where staff can donate for Haiti. The company will make a corporate donation matching whatever the staff has raised. IBM In Ireland, Intranet news item and on-line newsletter item providing guidance on how employees can make donations through Irish and global NGO's and aid agencies. At a global level IBM is also making a significant corporate donation, responding to the critical requests for technology and services from NGOs and public agencies leading the relief effort. Intel Ireland The Intel Foundation is matching Ireland employee funds and IT teams and equipment are putting together to help. Employees can donate to the Irish Red Cross NetHope, American Red Cross, Mercy Corps, World Vision. ITC Group A cheque for €500 has been sent to Goal. E-mails have also been circulated to all employees to encourage them to make individual donations. KPMG At KPMG employees have been pledging money through payroll. To date employees have pledged over €15,000 and KPMG have added a further €20,000 to be given to the Irish Red Cross. Meteor Meteor have Concern collection points for staff who would like to make a donation. The company will match the total donation made by employees. There are also collection points set up at all 39 Meteor retail stores for the public to make donations. Microsoft Ireland Microsoft will handover over approx €37,000 to Concern to assist them with the relief work on Haiti. Microsoft also have the US Disaster Recovery Team working alongside NGO's in Haiti to assist in rebuilding the infrastructure. O2 Ireland All funds raised through initiatives such as bucket collection and table quizzes will be matched by Telefonica Europe - up to the value of €26,500 Group wide. PepsiCo PepsiCo Ireland have organised with the PepsiCo Foundation that they will match individual employee donations to the equivalent of 10 dollars to the charity Haven to help with the relief work in Haiti. Pfizer Ireland Pfizer has pledged up to $1 million in medicinal product donations to relief organizations serving the people of Haiti and a monetary donation of $250,000 that will be evenly split between the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and CARE. State Street International The State Street Foundation's Disaster Relief Emergency Assistance Fund is making a US$400,000 grant to Oxfam America . The Foundation will also match up to US$100,000 through a special matching gift program for all employees globally. Vodafone Ireland Vodafone Ireland has partnered with Concern to encourage its employees and customers to aid the fundraising efforts for the Haiti earthquake. In addition, Vodafone Ireland Foundation will donate €10,000. Vodafone is also providing all fixed-line and mobile customers free calls and texts to Haiti for the duration of the month of January. Worldwide, Vodafone is supporting the emergency relief effort in Haiti with cash grants totalling over £250,000. Ulster Bank Group In addition to the launch of "Helping Haiti" appeals in Republic Of Ireland (through Concern) and Northern Ireland (through Disasters Emergency Appeal) where staff and customers can donate , Ulster Bank Staff Charity Funds agree donations to Haiti Appeals (€20,000 donated to Concern in ROI and £5,000 donated each to Concern and UNICEF in NI). Ulster Bank matches the donations made by employees to the Staff Charity Funds.
