Nationwide Call to Action for People to Support the Flood Recovery Fund
• Over 1,500 people have now been forced to leave their homes
• The Community Foundation for Ireland pledges €50,000 to initiate Flood Recovery Fund
• This is a public appeal for people to support the flood victims
In response to the devastation wrought by widespread flooding across many parts of Ireland in the past week, the Community Foundation for Ireland has established a Flood Recovery Fund to help frontline community and voluntary groups provide assistance to the most vulnerable in our communities.
The Community Foundation, an organisation that supports local communities all around Ireland, has already pledged €50,000 to the fund and is encouraging all other businesses and individuals to follow suit and to contribute what they can. This is a public appeal for support of those worst affected by the floods. Donations can be accepted online at www.foundation.ie or by contacting the foundation directly on 01-874 7354.

Donations are needed to help in the provision of Food, Clothing, Bedding and the Clean-up effort. Groups working with older people, families with young children, people with physical or learning disabilities, people with mental health needs and people on low incomes who have been affected by the floods will be targeted.
The fund will be distributed to voluntary and community organisations that are directly assisting any families or individuals who have been affected by the floods and will be given in the form of grants ranging from €1,000 to €5,000.
“We have all been very saddened by the reports and by the pictures that we see on a daily basis of people in neighbouring towns and counties who have been so severely damaged by the recent floods. Many of these people will be facing a very difficult time, particularly in the run up to Christmas. This is a chance for the people who have managed to escape the worst of the flooding to reach out to those people and show support. The Community Foundation for Ireland will be able to support community and voluntary groups that are already on the ground supporting the affected communities so donations will have a very real and significant impact” said Tina Roche CEO of The Community Foundation for Ireland.
